Developed CryEngine Environment
The Facebook headquarters
is connected by a double helix, this was an intentional design to evoke the
sense of connection and relationships. These are two main concepts of the Facebook
brand and were important to me to include. The elevator passes through the
inside of the spiral.
As it can be
seen the bridge connects the two headquarters and connects either side of the
valley, the elevator passes inside of the double helix with full 360 views of
the environment. I’ve intentionally made the elevators
move quickly in order to support the concept of power. Powerful businesses
employ powerful people, who need not to waste time but deserve and expect their
surroundings to be up to their standards.
The elevators for both businesses are a glass
sphere with handrails they are colour matched to the headquarters. They have
been designed so that they arrive and leave at the base of the headquarters
making the rider of the elevator admire that vast and expansive headquarters
they are approaching
They table
has been constructed with the CEO’s sitting at either ends of the table
in high throne like seats. The seats have been designed so that they enclose
the user with arm rails and high cushioning to wrap around the user. There are
other smaller chairs along the expanse of the table the area they can use is
lower than either end, forcing the user to look up when they look at either end
of the table.
The table is
solid on either side with a glass section in the middle. Powerful people are
generally known to sit at solid large desks, the desk is solid because it needs
to be seen as strong and resilient which glass isn’t. That is why where the less important other users sit,
the table top is glass, they seem inferior. The environment is a place of
equality between the two businesses but by no means a place of weakness.
Draft CryEngine3 Environment
This is a draft screen capture of the Facebook headquarters
with associated elevator. The headquarters was modelled with the inspiration of
the Wi-Fi logo. The Wi-Fi inspiration helps to identify the building as the Facebook
headquarters as well as alluding to other more conceptual ideas. The increasing
size of the half spheres represent the growing/expanding nature of the business,
alluding back to my mash up article quote of "the companies could go even higher” . When you look at the business from any angle
it looks as if the building has resized becoming more powerful.
This is the Coca Cola headquarters in its draft Crysis
environment. The building is shaped in a way that makes it seem dominant and oppressive.
The growing shape of the building makes the building appear powerful and
expanding. The two connecting structures
conceptually link the building to the business. Coke is a business that
is always expanding and producing more and more products that are similar but
not necessarily the same. They are a growth off the popularity off the
businesses main drink.
The meeting space between and beneath the two businesses
display a sense of equality between the two powerful businesses. The most
important people from both businesses have allocated seats which are at either
ends of the table.
This is a graphic of my earlier design ideas from my
sketches. They were not inspired by the businesses or the concept of power;
they were a tool to practise sizing and the creation of my environment.
I knew I needed the businesses on
the bridge to be sized appropriately; I wanted to bring a sense of realism to
the experiment.
